To be market successful, 6G must adopt at the same time two perspectives:
6G as a maintenance release for 5G – providing the missing technologies for the very large promises that 5G did, to further optimize the communication characteristics and to provide new combination of these characteristics addressing the requirements of new services. This includes vertical specific features such as Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs), Non-Public Networks (NPNs), Time Sensitive Networks (TSN), etc.
6G as a new paradigm – a comprehensive network redesign based on new use case characteristics such as mobility/nomadicity of the network infrastructure (be available where and when needed and only there and then) as well as private network global interworking (act local, interact global)
Although we do not know yet which would be the killer applications, from our perspective, the flexibilization of the previous communication categories, the organic development of the networks towards network mobility and new coverage area models will provide a significant level of network innovation to bring to 6G the expected market support.
